Description
WSB Float Kit 6
WSB Float Kit 6 is a ready-made selection of fishing floats in a single pack. It gives you a choice of floats in one purchase, so you can pick the right one for the swim in front of you rather than making do with whatever happens to be in your bag.
Buying floats as a kit is a cost-effective way to build up a float box or to get started with float fishing, and it is a handy way to replace floats lost to snags, trees and breakages over a season. Kit 6 is one of several WSB float kits, each with its own selection.
Choosing the right float
Float choice comes down to the depth, the flow, the distance you need to cast and the wind. Stillwaters and slow rivers are usually fished with wagglers attached bottom end only, while faster rivers are better suited to floats fixed top and bottom so you can control the float as it trots downstream. Larger floats carry more shot, so they cast further and are more stable in wind and tow; smaller floats give a more sensitive presentation for shy-biting fish close in. Having a selection to hand lets you match the float to the conditions.
Setting up
Once you have chosen a float, shot it so that only the tip shows above the surface. Bulk most of the shot near or around the float for casting weight and stability, and use smaller shot down the line to control how the bait falls through the water. Plumb the depth before you start so your bait is presented where the fish are feeding. A float that is shotted correctly will register even the smallest bites, giving you a much better chance of hitting them.
Key features
- Selection of floats in one pack
- Covers a range of fishing situations
- Cost-effective way to stock a float box
- Handy spares for floats lost or broken
- Ideal for beginners and general coarse fishing
Compatibility
Use with float rods and whips and standard coarse fishing line, typically between 2lb and 6lb main line. Float adaptors, float stops and split shot are needed to set the floats up and are not included unless shown on the packet. Check the packet for the exact float types and sizes in this kit.
Care and maintenance
Floats last much longer if they are kept in a dedicated float box or tube rather than loose in a bag, where tips can be snapped and bodies scratched. Rinse off mud and weed after a session and let them dry before packing them away. Check the attachment eye or stem for cracks from time to time, and touch up a faded tip with a little float paint if needed so it stays easy to see.
Who is it for?
Ideal for beginners and juniors starting float fishing, for anglers building up a float box on a budget, and for anyone who wants a spare selection to keep in the car or a second bag.
Please note: Rod, line, shot and float attachments are not included unless stated on the packet.
