Description
WSB Pro Mono 12lb
WSB Pro Mono 12lb is a nylon monofilament fishing line with a 12lb breaking strain, part of WSB’s Pro Mono range. At 12lb it is a popular all-round strength that bridges the gap between coarse fishing and heavier carp and sea work.
Monofilament remains the most popular all-round fishing line because it is easy to handle, forgiving and good value. It is simple to spool, casts smoothly off a fixed spool reel and ties dependable knots, which makes it a sensible choice for beginners and experienced anglers alike.
Where 12lb line fits
A 12lb main line is a classic choice for carp fishing on open waters and commercials, for tench and bream on the feeder at range, and for light sea fishing and spinning from the shore. It has enough strength to handle hard-fighting fish and casting heavier feeders and leads, while still being manageable on medium sized reels. For float and silverfish fishing a lighter line will give a more delicate presentation.
Why monofilament
Mono has a degree of natural stretch. That stretch acts as a shock absorber when you strike and when a fish makes a sudden lunge close to the net, which reduces hook pulls and breakages, especially on lighter tackle. It also sinks steadily and lies naturally on the bottom when ledgering, and it is easy to see what is happening with your rig. Because nylon is supple, it sits well on the spool and comes off cleanly during the cast, which helps with both distance and accuracy.
Key features
- 12lb breaking strain
- Nylon monofilament
- Natural stretch cushions the strike and the fight
- Supple and easy to cast
- Ties strong, reliable knots
- Popular all-round strength
- Suits carp, feeder and light sea fishing
Compatibility
Suits medium sized fixed spool reels on carp, feeder, spinning and light bass rods. Check your reel’s spool capacity to work out how much line you need.
As a rule of thumb, choose a hooklength a little lighter than your main line, so that if you do get snagged the break happens at the hooklength and you do not lose your float or feeder.
Care and maintenance
Nylon monofilament is tough, but heat and sunlight are its main enemies. Store spare spools in a cool, dark place, and avoid leaving loaded reels on a car dashboard or in a hot shed. At the start of every session, run the last few metres through your fingers and cut back any section that feels rough, flattened or kinked.
Always moisten knots with water before pulling them tight, as friction heat can weaken the line at the knot. Retie after landing a big fish or pulling free from a snag. If you fish in the sea, rinse your reel and spool in fresh water afterwards and let it dry naturally. Take old line home and cut it into short lengths before binning it, so it cannot trap birds or wildlife.
Who is it for?
For carp and feeder anglers, and for sea anglers spinning or fishing light from the shore, who want a strong, forgiving all-round mono.
