Description

ZTac Comtac II Electronic Ear Defenders and Comms Headset with Mic (Dark Earth)

The ZTac Comtac II is a working tactical communications headset with a boom microphone, styled after the well-known Comtac II used by military and police units. Our listing describes it as electronic ear defenders and a comms headset, and it is finished in Dark Earth (DE), a brown-tan shade that matches coyote and desert-pattern gear.

Z-Tactical (zTac) is one of the best-known names in airsoft headsets and radio accessories. The Comtac II is one of its most popular designs, giving you a realistic look and practical radio communication for milsim, team play and night games, at a price far below the real-steel headset.

How it works

Retailer listings for the Z-Tactical Comtac II describe a double-earpiece headset with a microphone on an adjustable boom. External booster microphones on the ear cups pick up the sound around you and pass it to the earpieces electronically, with a volume control so you can balance ambient sound against radio traffic.

The booster circuit is listed as running on two AA batteries, one in each side. Without batteries the booster microphones are off, but the headset still works with your radio. To connect to a radio you need a zTac PTT unit matched to your radio’s connector, such as Kenwood, Motorola, Icom or Midland.

On the field

Turn up the booster volume to hear footsteps and voices around you, and turn it down when the radio is busy. Position the boom mic close to the corner of your mouth for the clearest transmissions, and run a radio check before each game. If you wear the headset with a helmet, check the fit before game day; some players use helmet rail adapters, sold separately.

Key features

  • Working comms headset with boom microphone
  • Comtac II-style design
  • Booster microphones for ambient sound (as listed)
  • Volume control to balance ambient sound and radio traffic
  • Listed as running on two AA batteries
  • Works with a radio via a zTac PTT
  • Dark Earth finish

Compatibility

Connects to a radio through a zTac PTT unit, which must match your radio’s connector (for example Kenwood/Baofeng, Motorola, Icom or Midland). Check that the PTT’s headset socket matches this headset’s plug. For helmet use, check the images and your helmet’s rails before buying any adapters.

Care and maintenance

Remove the AA batteries if you will not use the headset for a while, as old batteries can leak and damage the contacts. Wipe the ear cups and headband with a slightly damp cloth after use and let them dry fully before packing away.

Keep the plug and cable free of dirt and moisture, unplug by the connector rather than the cable, and store the headset where the boom and ear cups will not be crushed.

Who is it for?

This headset suits milsim and team players who want realistic Comtac II-style comms in Dark Earth to match coyote and desert gear.

Please note: Radio, PTT unit and AA batteries are not included. We do not have a hearing-protection rating for this headset, so do not rely on it as certified hearing protection.
