Description

APS CAM870 AOW Magnum Shotgun (CO2 – Shell Ejecting – CAM870AOW – MKII)

The APS CAM870 AOW is a short, pistol-gripped pump-action shotgun from APS’s CAM870 family, using the MKII version of APS’s shell-ejecting system. Every time you work the pump, a spent shell is thrown clear of the ejection port and a fresh one is chambered, which makes it one of the most satisfying and realistic airsoft shotguns you can use.

AOW stands for ‘any other weapon’, a compact configuration without a full stock. At about 440mm long, the AOW is small enough to carry as a secondary or on a sling across the chest, yet it still fires a spread of BBs with each shot. It is a natural fit for CQB, house clearing and anyone who wants a shotgun with real character.

How the MKII shell system works

The CAM870 uses individual shells, each loaded with up to 12 BBs held in a plastic cup and capped with a paper top. On the MKII system the gas is held in the bolt, so it is the bolt that you charge with gas rather than each shell. You load the shells into the gun, rack the pump, and every pull of the trigger sends out a cluster of BBs.

The magazine tube holds two shells plus one in the chamber, and the system can fire up to 12 BBs per shot. You can mix shell loads and BB weights to suit the way you play. The listed gas source is an 88g CO2 cartridge, with a CO2 charging adapter included. There is no hop-up, which is normal for a multi-shot shotgun designed for short-range work.

Build and handling

The receiver, barrel, magazine tube, trigger guard, trigger, action and internals are listed as metal, giving the AOW a dense, solid feel. The furniture is nylon fibre composite, and a metal folding vertical grip on the pump gives your support hand a positive hold for fast, firm racking.

A simple bead sight sits at the muzzle for quick point shooting. The firing modes are simply safe and fire, so there is little to learn: load, rack, aim and shoot. A shell catch is supplied to help gather the ejected shells so you do not lose them on the field.

Playing with a shotgun

A shotgun rewards aggressive, close-range play. Clearing a room or covering a corridor with a spread of BBs is extremely effective, and the AOW’s short length makes it easy to manoeuvre in tight spaces. Reloading takes practice, so carry spare loaded shells in a pouch and practise feeding them in under pressure.

Because each shot releases several BBs, many sites have specific rules for shotguns, so check with your site before your first game and have it chronographed.

Compatibility

The AOW uses APS CAM870 MKII shells. Different generations of CAM shells are not always interchangeable, so make sure any spares are listed for the MKII system before ordering. Use clean, seamless 6mm BBs, and use only the charging method described in the APS manual.

Accessories designed for the CAM870 family may fit, but always check they are listed for the AOW configuration.

Care and maintenance

Always release any remaining gas before removing a CO2 cartridge, and never leave the system charged in storage. A drop of silicone oil on the seals and the tip of each new cartridge helps keep everything airtight.

Keep the shells clean and dry, and replace any whose cups or caps are damaged. Wipe the metal parts with a lightly oiled cloth after wet games and store the shotgun somewhere dry.

Who is it for?

The CAM870 AOW suits CQB players who want a compact, characterful shotgun, collectors of realistic shell-ejecting replicas and anyone looking for a striking secondary.

Please note: CO2 cartridges and BBs are not listed as included. Always wear suitable eye and face protection when using or testing any airsoft replica, and have it chronographed at your site before play.
