Can I buy this? This is a realistic replica (RIF). UK law needs a valid defence to buy one, usually UKARA registration, which you get by playing three games over two months at one site. No UKARA? See two-tone versions: you just need to be 18 or over. Questions? Ask us.

Description

APS CAM870 Police Model Shotgun (Gas – Shell Ejecting – CAM MKIII-P)

The APS CAM870 Police Model is a pump-action, shell-ejecting shotgun based on the classic Remington M870 with a police-profile layout. Every time you work the pump, the spent shell is thrown clear of the ejection port, just like a real shotgun, which makes it one of the most realistic and satisfying shotguns available in airsoft.

APS’s CAM (Cartridge Ammunition Mechanism) system has been refined over several generations, and this MKIII-P version uses the third-generation shells. Each shell holds its own gas charge and BBs, so loading, firing and reloading feel like the real thing. It is a favourite with realism-focused players, collectors and anyone who enjoys a proper pump-action shotgun.

How the CAM system works

Each shell is loaded with BBs and charged with CO2, the gas APS specifies for the MKIII shells. You feed the shells into the tube magazine, work the pump to chamber one and pull the trigger to release the gas and fire the BBs. Working the pump again ejects the empty shell and chambers the next.

Because the gas is held in the shells rather than in the shotgun, you can prepare a pouch of charged shells before a game and reload just as you would a real shotgun.

Build and handling

A Hong Kong retailer lists the Police Model with metal construction and polymer stock and forend, a length of about 1010mm and a weight of around 2.5kg. It holds four shells in the tube plus one in the chamber, and uses a bead-style front sight in the classic M870 manner. There is no hop-up, so it is best suited to short and medium-range engagements.

The full-length police profile gives a stable, shouldered hold and plenty of length for a confident pump stroke.

Getting started

Read the manual first so you know how to charge and load the shells correctly. Load BBs into each shell, charge it with the specified gas, and feed the shells into the shotgun. Work the pump firmly through its full stroke for each shot and fire a few test rounds at a safe backstop to see how the spread behaves at your usual distances.

Practise loading and pumping at home until it feels smooth, and have the shotgun chronographed at your site before play.

Key features

  • Remington M870-based pump-action shotgun
  • Police-profile layout
  • Genuine shell-ejecting CAM system
  • CO2 charged into each MKIII shell
  • 4+1 shell capacity
  • Metal construction with polymer stock and forend
  • Bead-style front sight
  • No hop-up, ideal for short to medium range

Compatibility

The shotgun uses APS CAM870 MKIII shells only, which must be bought separately. Older CAM shells and shells from other shotgun systems will not work, so check the shell type before ordering spares.

Use clean, good quality 6mm BBs, and charge the shells only as the APS manual describes.

Care and maintenance

Keep shells clean and free of grit, and never store them charged with gas. Before filling, put a drop of silicone oil on the shell’s fill valve, and use only the gas the manufacturer specifies.

Wipe the pump rails and action with a light film of silicone oil, clean the barrel occasionally with a rod and patch, and use clean seamless BBs. Store the shotgun dry, with the chamber empty and no gas in any shells.

Who is it for?

The CAM870 Police Model suits realism-focused players, collectors and anyone who wants the full shell-ejecting pump-action experience with a classic police-style M870.

Please note: Shells, CO2 and BBs are not included; the shotgun needs APS CAM870 MKIII shells to operate. Always wear suitable eye and face protection and check site rules before play.
