The Army Armament R501 is a full metal Hi-Capa gas blowback pistol in black, styled after the well-known Costa carry-comp custom pistols. It pairs a shortened slide with weight-reduction cuts and a 4-inch island-type barrel with compensator, giving it a modern race-gun look in a handy size.
Army Armament’s custom Hi-Capas give players the look of a high-end competition build without the cost and effort of putting one together from parts. The black R501 is the most understated version of the design, which makes it equally suitable as a skirmish sidearm, a practical shooting pistol or a smart addition to a collection.
Build and design
The metal frame and shortened, lightened slide give the pistol a solid feel and a fast, snappy cycle. Fibre optic sights make it quick to pick up the front sight, and the stippled polymer grip and tactical magwell help with control and fast reloads.
An ambidextrous thumb safety locks the slide, and an integral frame rail lets you fit a compact pistol light for building clearance or night games.
Performance and internals
An adjustable hop-up lets you tune the flight of the BB to suit your preferred weight. Army Armament fits a sealed hop-up rubber in a silicone compound rated for lower temperatures, a reinforced polymer nozzle designed for cool weather and sealed magazine valves, all aimed at keeping performance consistent through the year.
The 28-round double-stack extended magazine gives a good capacity for a sidearm, and the gas blowback action provides a crisp kick with every shot.
Getting started
Fill the magazine with a suitable airsoft gas, holding the can upright and filling in short bursts. Let the magazine settle for a minute, load your BBs and fire a few test shots at a safe backstop with the hop-up off, then add hop a little at a time until the BBs fly flat.
Have the pistol chronographed at your site before play, and practise reloads and holster draws at home so they feel natural on game day.

Compatibility
The pistol is built on the Hi-Capa pattern. Hi-Capa magazines vary between makers and competition magwells can be selective, so choose spare magazines listed for the Army Armament R501 or ask us to confirm compatibility. The frame rail takes a compact pistol light, and you will need a holster made for compensated Hi-Capa pistols with a magwell.
Care and maintenance
Put a drop of silicone oil on the magazine’s fill valve and seals every few fills, and store magazines with a little gas in them so the seals stay tight. Fill in short bursts and do not overfill, and in cold weather let magazines warm up naturally rather than heating them.
Wipe the slide rails, outer barrel and other moving parts with a thin film of silicone oil now and then, clean the inner barrel with a rod and patch, and use good quality seamless BBs. Never use petroleum-based oils on the seals.
