B983 Specialist Hook – Size 8

The B983 Specialist Hook in size 8 is a light gauge hook that is still incredibly strong, made for specialist big fish angling. It belongs to Kamasan’s well-known B983 wide gape specialist pattern, a hook that is widely used by carp, tench, barbel and bream anglers, as well as by match anglers who need a strong hook in smaller sizes.

The combination of fine wire and strength is what sets this pattern apart. A lighter wire hook penetrates easily and lets small and buoyant baits behave more naturally, while the strength of the hook means you can still put pressure on a big fish when you need to keep it out of snags or weed.

Design and construction

The B983 is made from fine high carbon wire and features a wide gape, which leaves plenty of room between the point and the shank for the hook to catch hold, even with a bait mounted on a hair. It has an angled eye and a curved, chemically sharpened needle point, so it is very sharp straight from the packet, and it is barbed for a secure hold.

The wide gape and angled eye work particularly well with bottom baits and with buoyant baits such as pop-ups, helping the hook turn and catch hold in the fish’s mouth.
