Description
Breakaway Impact Shields
Breakaway Impact Shields are a bait protector and release clip that has become one of the most widely used components in clipped-down sea rigs. They come 4 per packet. The system is neat and simple to use, and it gives a very reliable, clean release of the hook when the rig hits the water.
The shield holds the baited hook during the cast, streamlining the bait against the rig and protecting it from the force of the cast and from the air. On impact with the sea, the shield releases the hook so the bait can fish naturally on the bottom. For beach anglers, that means longer casts and baits that arrive intact.
How they are used
Impact Shields are designed for single-hook and wishbone rigs. They can also be used with Breakaway Cascade Swivels on multi-hook rigs, where the shield acts as the main release and the other hooks release in turn. The shield sits on the rig body near the lead, and the hook is placed into it before the cast.
Why use an impact shield
A shield protects soft baits such as peeler crab, lugworm and squid more completely than a simple bait clip, and helps prevent premature release during the cast. This makes it a good choice when you are casting hard or fishing at range.
