Description

Double Bell JW3 Baba Yaga Gas Blowback Pistol with Deluxe Collector Box (789+)

The Double Bell 789+ is a JW3 Baba Yaga style gas blowback pistol supplied in a deluxe collector box. It is built on the Hi-Capa platform and styled on the competition pistols made famous by action cinema, with a flared magwell and competition-style controls. Our range also includes the 789+ in blue; this listing does not name a colour, so please check the product photos for the finish.

Retailer listings for the 789 describe it as a green gas pistol with a magazine of around 27 rounds, a 120mm inner barrel, an adjustable hop-up, a 20mm accessory rail, ambidextrous and grip safeties, and a flared magwell. The 789+ collector box version may differ in detail, so these points are given as a guide. Double Bell (also sold under the D|Boys name) produces a wide range of affordable replicas, and its gas pistols bring popular competition and film-inspired designs within reach of far more players than the high-end originals they are styled on.

How a gas blowback pistol works

A gas blowback (GBB) pistol stores gas in the magazine. When you pull the trigger, part of the gas sends the BB down the barrel and the rest drives the slide back, which cocks the hammer and chambers the next round. That moving slide gives a crisp kick in the hand and makes drills, reloads and malfunction practice feel much closer to the real thing. Like all gas replicas, performance drops as the magazine cools, so on cold days keep spare magazines in an inside pocket and allow a moment between strings of shots.

Design and handling

The Hi-Capa platform is popular for its double-stack grip, light trigger and huge choice of aftermarket parts. The JW3 style adds a flared magwell, which guides the magazine home during fast reloads, along with competition-style controls and a rail for a pistol light. The grip safety must be squeezed to fire, and the ambidextrous safety suits both left- and right-handed shooters.

As a sidearm the 789+ is quick to point and comfortable in the hand. It will need a holster that suits a Hi-Capa with a flared magwell, as standard 1911 holsters may not take the wider grip.

The collector box

The deluxe collector box makes this version a good gift or display piece as well as a pistol to use. It keeps the pistol protected when it is not in use; please check the product photos for the box layout and any extra contents, as we have not confirmed the full box contents for the 789+.

Compatibility

As a Hi-Capa based pistol, the 789+ will generally accept Hi-Capa style gas magazines, although flared or competition magwells can be selective, so check fit before buying spares. The 20mm rail takes standard pistol lights, and you will need a holster that suits a competition-style Hi-Capa with a flared magwell. Use good quality green gas and seamless 6mm BBs.

Care and maintenance

Put a drop of silicone oil on the magazine’s fill valve and seals every few fills, and store magazines with a little gas in them so the seals stay seated. Do not overfill, and in cold weather let magazines warm up to room temperature rather than heating them.

Wipe the moving parts and outer barrel with a thin film of silicone oil now and then, clean the inner barrel with a rod and patch, and use good quality seamless BBs. Never use petroleum-based oils on the seals, and keep the pistol and magazines away from heat and direct sunlight.

Who is it for?

Fans of competition-style Hi-Capa pistols and film-inspired builds, players looking for a capable gas sidearm, and anyone wanting a pistol presented in a collector box.

Please note: Gas and BBs are not listed as included. Features are taken from retailer listings for the 789 and may differ on the 789+. Always wear suitable eye and face protection when using airsoft replicas, and check your site’s rules and power limits before play.
