The H8R Gen2 is a CO2-powered airsoft revolver from Elite Force, the airsoft brand of the German company Umarex. It takes the classic revolver concept and gives it a bold, modern look, with angular lines, a slab-sided barrel shroud and a contoured grip. This black version carries the Umarex product code 2.6446.
Revolvers are among the most satisfying airsoft sidearms to shoot, and the H8R is designed to be practical as well as fun. Rather than loading individual shells, it uses quick-change rotary magazines that drop into the cylinder, so reloading is fast and simple, even in the middle of a game.
How it works
The H8R is powered by CO2, stored in a capsule housed in the grip and secured using the Allen key that is stowed in the grip itself. CO2 provides strong, consistent power and is less affected by moderate cold than green gas. The trigger works in both single and double action: you can cock the hammer for a light, crisp single-action pull, or simply pull the trigger through for double-action shooting without cocking first. Each rotary magazine holds 10 BBs, and the adjustable hop-up lets you tune the flight of the BB for better range and accuracy.
Build and handling
The polymer construction keeps the revolver light and easy to handle for long sessions of target shooting. A silver-finished trigger and hammer contrast with the black body, and fibre-optic front and rear sights make it quick to pick up the target, even in poor light. The barrel shroud includes Picatinny rail space for mounting a small torch, laser or red dot. The ergonomic grip gives a secure hold for both one-handed and two-handed shooting.
On the range, the double-action pull is ideal for quick follow-up shots, while single action rewards a slower, more deliberate approach when you are trying to tighten your groups. Because each magazine is a self-contained unit, a pocket full of pre-loaded spares turns the H8R into a surprisingly practical sidearm in a game, and the swap takes only a few seconds once you have practised it.

Compatibility
Use H8R rotary magazines, which are available separately so you can carry several pre-loaded. The revolver uses standard CO2 capsules sold for airsoft and airgun use. The rail space accepts compact Picatinny-mount torches, lasers and red dots. Good quality 0.20g BBs are a sensible starting point; adjust the hop-up to suit heavier BBs.
Care and maintenance
Put a drop of silicone oil on the tip of each new CO2 capsule before fitting it, which helps keep the piercing seal in good condition. Do not leave a capsule in the revolver for long periods; remove it once it is empty, or after the day’s play, so the seals are not kept under pressure. Keep the rotary magazines clean and free of grit. Wipe the revolver down after use and store it in a dry place. Clean the barrel occasionally with a rod and dry patch.
