Fly Display Cards – Buzzer
This fly display card holds a selection of buzzer flies, supplied neatly on a card so you can see exactly what you are getting and pick out the patterns you want. Buzzers imitate midge pupae, one of the most important natural foods for stillwater trout, and they catch fish all year round.
Chironomid midges hatch on almost every lake and reservoir throughout the season, so trout are always on the lookout for the pupae as they rise slowly towards the surface. A slim, simple buzzer pattern fished slowly is one of the most reliable ways to catch them, and many experienced stillwater anglers would not go out without a selection.
How to fish them
Buzzers are fished slowly, imitating pupae drifting or rising gently in the water. Hang one or more under an indicator and let them sit almost static, or fish a team of two or three on a floating line with a very slow figure-of-eight retrieve. Vary the depth until you find the fish: early in the day or in cold weather they may be deep, while in a hatch they may be just under the surface.
Building your fly box
A card of flies is an easy way to fill out a box with a range of the patterns you will use most. Carry a few of each colour and size so you can change quickly when the fish change their mood or when you lose a fly in weed or a fish. Over a season you will learn which ones work best on your local waters.

- Effective on stillwaters all year round
- Suits indicator and team-of-flies tactics
- Supplied on a display card

Compatibility
Suited to standard trout fly tackle. Match your tippet strength to the size of the flies and the fish you expect, and use a leader length that suits the depth and conditions. Check any fishery rules on fly size, hook type and barbless hooks before fishing.
Care and maintenance
After fishing, let used flies dry fully before putting them back in your box, as damp flies can rust hooks and damage neighbouring patterns. Store them in a fly box with foam slots or compartments. Check hook points and touch them up with a hook sharpener if needed, and discard flies with damaged hooks.
Who is it for?
Stillwater trout anglers who want a ready-made selection of proven buzzer patterns, from beginners building their first fly box to regulars topping up their favourites.
