Gate MERF 3.2
The GATE MERF 3.2 is a programmable third-generation MOSFET for electric airsoft guns. As well as protecting the trigger contacts, it adds a range of extra functions, including burst fire, rate of fire control, a quicker trigger response and an active brake, making it a versatile upgrade for an AEG that is otherwise working well.
GATE has a long history of airsoft electronics, and the MERF line has been one of its most popular programmable MOSFETs. The MERF 3.2 suits players who want more control over how their rifle fires without moving to a full drop-in electronic trigger unit.
What it does
A MOSFET is an electronic switch. In a standard AEG, the full battery current passes through the trigger contacts every time you fire, and over time the contacts burn and pit, especially with higher-voltage LiPo batteries. With a MOSFET fitted, the trigger contacts only carry a tiny signal current, while the MOSFET switches the main current from the battery to the motor.
Retailers describe up to 10 functions on the MERF 3.2, including a three-round burst, a configurable fire selector, ROF Control to limit rate of fire without losing power, Smart Trigger for faster response, and debouncing that makes it compatible with micro triggers. An active brake stops the piston straight after firing, which helps reduce stress on the gearbox.
Installation modes
The unit can be installed in Plug&Play mode, which needs no complicated work, or in Enhanced mode, which means opening the gearbox to fit signal cables and unlocks all of the features. Retailers list five selector configurations covering stock and modified wiring, so you can choose semi/auto, semi/burst or burst/auto depending on how it is set up.
Protection
The MERF 3.2 protects LiPo, Li-Ion and LiFePO4 batteries, has an electronic fuse to protect the electrical system, and is described as designed to handle springs up to M170.

Compatibility
Designed for electric airsoft guns. Plug&Play mode suits most AEGs without gearbox work; Enhanced mode requires opening the gearbox to fit the signal cables. Check that your gun does not already have a built-in MOSFET or electronic trigger, and read GATE’s instructions before choosing a selector configuration.
Care and maintenance
Once fitted, a MOSFET needs very little attention. Keep wiring tidy and away from moving parts, check that solder joints and heat shrink are sound whenever the gearbox is opened, and keep connectors clean. Disconnect the battery whenever the gun is not in use, and use a battery suited to your set-up rather than relying on electronics to make up for a badly matched spring, motor and battery.
