Description
G&G GMG-42 MG42 Support Rifle (GT Advanced, 0.50J)
The G&G GMG-42 is an electric airsoft support weapon styled on the MG42, the German general-purpose machine gun of the Second World War. This version is listed as GT Advanced, at 0.50J, under the code TGM-G42-05J-BNB-NCM. Few replicas have such a distinctive outline, and the GMG-42 is a centrepiece for WWII re-enactment and a talking point at any skirmish site.
G&G Armament is one of Taiwan’s best-known airsoft manufacturers, with a reputation for reliable, well-engineered replicas. The GMG-42 brings that engineering to a large support weapon, with a drum magazine and a bipod for laying down sustained fire from cover.
Build and design
Redwolf Airsoft lists the standard G&G GMG42 as metal, about 1300mm long and around 8.5kg, so this is a large, heavy replica that is meant to be fired from a bipod rather than carried at the shoulder all day. The same listing says the barrel is steel and can be removed for easy maintenance, and that the gun ships in six pieces that go together without tools.
A bipod is listed as included, giving you a stable firing position from the ground, a wall or a vehicle.
Internals and power
Redwolf describes a custom gearbox designed for this model that can be removed from the receiver for maintenance or upgrades, an adjustable hop-up and a mini Tamiya 11.1V LiPo battery that fits inside the stock. The rifle is full auto only, as befits a support weapon. Our listing describes this version as 0.50J, which suggests a lower-power set-up; please check with us if power matters for your site.
Magazine
The GMG42 feeds from a drum magazine that Redwolf lists as auto-winding, with its own battery, and compatible only with G&G MG42 drum magazines. A dummy round set is also listed, adding to the look of the gun on a stand or in a re-enactment display.

Compatibility
The GMG42 is listed as compatible with G&G MG42 drum magazines only. Redwolf lists a mini Tamiya 11.1V LiPo battery that fits inside the stock; please check with us before buying a battery, as space in the stock is limited and the connector must match.
Use high-quality seamless 6mm BBs. A support weapon gets through a lot of ammunition, so keep a bottle of BBs and a speed loader in your kit.
Care and maintenance
Take the battery out after every game and store it separately at a sensible storage charge, rather than leaving it connected inside the replica. Charge LiPo batteries with a proper balance charger, keep them in a LiPo-safe bag and never leave them charging unattended; NiMH packs should be charged with a smart charger that stops when the pack is full.
Run a cleaning rod with a lightly dampened patch through the inner barrel from time to time to clear dirt and residue, which keeps the hop-up consistent. Use good-quality seamless BBs, never reuse BBs that have been on the ground, and wipe the outside over after damp or muddy games. Leave gearbox work, shimming and spring changes to a competent technician.
Take advantage of the removable barrel to keep the inner barrel clean, and keep the drum magazine’s winding battery charged and removed when not in use. Store the gun disassembled in a padded case, and check that every section locks firmly when reassembling it.
Who is it for?
The GMG-42 suits WWII re-enactors, support-gunner players and collectors who want a spectacular, well-engineered MG42 replica from an established maker.
Please note: Please check with us whether a battery and charger are supplied with this version. Always wear suitable eye protection, and full-face protection where your site requires it, when using or testing any airsoft replica.
