Laylax Prometheus EG Barrel for SIG AIR MCX VIRTUS SBR (6.03mm – 295mm)
This Prometheus EG barrel is a 6.03mm tight bore precision inner barrel, 295mm long, listed for the SIG AIR MCX VIRTUS SBR. It replaces the factory barrel with a part from LayLax’s well-regarded EG series to help the rifle shoot more consistently.
The MCX VIRTUS SBR is a compact, modern rifle, and its short barrel length leaves less room to stabilise each BB, so the quality of the bore matters. The EG barrel is a straightforward internal upgrade that keeps the outside of the rifle unchanged.
Build
EG barrels are made from stainless steel, and LayLax quotes a bore tolerance of plus or minus 0.01mm for the series. Stainless steel is hard and resists corrosion and bending, so the bore stays straight and smooth over time.
A tight bore inner barrel leaves a slightly smaller gap between the BB and the barrel wall than a standard barrel. Less air slips past the BB, which helps efficiency and shot-to-shot consistency, and a smooth, straight bore lets the BB leave the muzzle cleanly. The hop-up still does much of the work, so pairing a good barrel with a fresh bucking and a careful hop-up setting gives the best results.
Fitting
Fitting means removing the upper receiver, hop-up unit and inner barrel. Transfer the hop-up rubber, or fit a new one, keeping its lip even and its window lined up. Reassemble, then set the hop-up gradually with the BB weight you use.

Care and maintenance
Clean the bore every few games with a cleaning rod and a dry or very lightly oiled patch, pushing from the hop-up end where possible, and finish dry. Use good quality seamless BBs of a consistent weight, as dirty or damaged BBs are the main cause of jams in tight bore barrels. Avoid getting oil on the hop-up rubber.
