Description
Laylax Prometheus EG Hard Gear Set 16:1 High Speed for Ver.2/Ver.3 Gearboxes
The Prometheus EG Hard Gear set in 16:1 is a reinforced high speed gear set for Version 2 and Version 3 AEG gearboxes. A 16:1 ratio turns the piston over faster than a standard set, which raises the rate of fire on full auto and sharpens trigger response on semi, while the reinforced design is aimed at keeping the gears durable at that speed.
Prometheus is the internal upgrade line from Japanese maker LayLax, and its EG gears are a long-standing choice for players building a reliable, quick-firing AEG.
Design
A UK retailer lists the set as reinforced and precision machined, with shot peening to strengthen the surface and machine cutting for dimensional accuracy. The sector gear has extra latch teeth that reduce the load on the anti-reversal latch at the end of each cycle, which helps the latch and the gear teeth last longer.
The same listing gives the set as an EG sector gear, spur gear and bevel gear, supplied with a Prometheus shim set.
Choosing the right spring
The listing rates this 16:1 set for Prometheus MS90, MS100 and MS110 springs. For heavier springs, LayLax points to its other gear sets: Double EG Hard Gear for MS120 to MS135, Triple Torque EG Hard Gear for MS110 to MS150 and Max Torque EG Hard Gear for MS150 to MS190.
A faster gear set asks more of the motor and battery, so plan the build as a whole. Correct shimming is essential: badly shimmed gears are noisy, wear quickly and can strip teeth.

- Prometheus shim set
Compatibility
The set is listed for Version 2 and Version 3 gearboxes. Gear spacing and bushing positions can vary between makers, so shimming must be checked in your own shells. It is not designed for Next Generation (recoil shock) gearboxes or other non-standard designs.
Care and maintenance
Use a thin layer of a good gear grease on the teeth, not too much, and keep grease away from the motor pinion area and electrics. Check gear mesh and shimming carefully on assembly and listen for grinding or whining after a test firing. Store the battery off the gun, and use a fuse or MOSFET suited to the motor and battery you choose.
Gearbox work requires skill and the correct tools. If you have not shimmed a gearbox before, have the set fitted by an experienced technician.
Who is it for?
It is for players and technicians building a fast-firing V2 or V3 AEG with a moderate spring who want reinforced, precisely made gears from a respected brand.
Please note: Motor, spring, battery and tools are not included.
