Description
NGT Assorted Metal Sea Lures
The NGT Assorted Metal Sea Lures give you a mixed selection of compact metal lures for sea spinning. Metal lures are one of the simplest and most effective ways to catch predatory fish around the UK coast: they are heavy for their size, so they cast a long way, and their flash and flutter on the retrieve imitate the small baitfish that mackerel, bass, pollack and many other species feed on.
Because the selection is assorted, you get a range of shapes and finishes to try on the day. That matters more than many anglers expect, as fish can be fussy about colour, profile and action depending on light, water clarity and what they are feeding on. A mix in the box lets you change until you find what works.
How to fish them
Clip a lure to your mainline or to a short leader using a quality snap link or split ring, cast out and let it sink to the depth you want before starting the retrieve. A steady wind is a good place to start, but varying the speed, adding sharp lifts of the rod tip or letting it flutter down on a slack line can all trigger more takes. Counting the lure down after the cast is a handy way of finding the depth the fish are holding at, and repeating it once you find them.
Where to use them
Metal lures work from beaches, piers, harbour walls, rock marks and boats. In summer they are a classic choice for mackerel shoals, and they will also catch bass, pollack, garfish, coalfish and other predators. When fish are breaking the surface, a fast retrieve just under the top can be deadly; when nothing is showing, fish them deeper and slower.
Key features
- Assorted selection of metal lures
- Compact, weighty profile for long casting
- Flash and wobble to imitate baitfish
- Can be fished at different depths
- Suits mackerel, bass, pollack, garfish and more
- For shore, pier, harbour and boat spinning
Compatibility
Suitable for use with a spinning rod and fixed-spool reel loaded with braid or monofilament. Match the lure weight to the casting weight of your rod. A short fluorocarbon or mono leader is worth adding when using braid, both for abrasion resistance and so that a snagged lure costs you less line.
Care and maintenance
Saltwater is hard on hooks and split rings, so rinse your lures in fresh water after every trip and let them dry completely before putting them back in the box. Check hook points regularly and replace any that are blunt or rusty. Keep the lures in a compartment box so the trebles do not tangle and the finishes do not get scratched.
Who is it for?
Sea anglers of all levels who want a versatile set of lures for spinning, from holidaymakers after mackerel off the pier to regular shore anglers targeting bass and pollack.
