Description
Premier Windbeater 3AAA
The Premier Windbeater is a float made for beating wind and surface drift, two of the most common problems in float fishing on open water. When a breeze pushes the surface layer across the lake, an ordinary float and the line behind it are dragged along with it, pulling your bait out of position. A windbeater is designed to sit stable in the water and keep your bait where you put it.
This model carries 3AAA of shot, making it a good choice for short to medium range on lakes, ponds, commercial fisheries and slow-moving rivers when the conditions are against you.
How a windbeater works
Windbeater floats are fished bottom-end only, attached by the base, and are typically designed with a body that sits low in the water and a sight tip that stays visible in a ripple. Combined with sinking the line between the float and the rod tip, this greatly reduces the effect of the wind and drift on your presentation.
Using it on the bank
Lock the float in place with shot or float stops either side of the base, putting most of the 3AAA loading around the float and a few smaller shot down the line to cock it and take the bait down. After casting, overcast slightly, put the rod tip under the water and wind back a few turns to sink the line. Then plumb the depth carefully and adjust so just the tip shows.
Key features
- Designed to beat wind and surface drift
- Carries 3AAA shot
- Stable presentation in rough conditions
- Fished bottom-end only
- Suits lakes, ponds and slow rivers
Compatibility
Use with a float adaptor or swivel and shot or float stops to lock the float. Suits a standard float rod and a sinking mainline. Choose a heavier windbeater for longer casts or rougher water, and a lighter one for close-range fishing.
Care and maintenance
Store floats in a float tube or box so the tips are not snapped or bent. Rinse after use in salt or brackish water and allow to dry before putting away. Check the tip and base for damage before each session.
Who is it for?
Float anglers who fish open stillwaters and slow rivers and want a stable float for windy days.
