Description
SHS Ultra High Torque AEG Motor (Short Type) (SHS-057)
SHS (Shenzhen Hongshun) is one of the best-known makers of replacement AEG internals, and its motors are a popular, affordable way to bring a tired or stock rifle back to life. This is the Ultra High Torque motor in the short type, listed under SHS code SHS-057. Short-type motors are the ones that sit in or behind the pistol grip of rifles such as AK and G36 series AEGs, where the motor is mounted lower and further forward than in an M4.
A high-torque motor is designed to pull a spring back with less effort. That makes it a good choice when you are fitting a stronger spring, running a heavier set-up, or simply want more consistent cycling and better trigger response than a worn stock motor can give.
Performance and what torque means
Torque is the turning force the motor produces. A motor with more torque can compress the main spring more easily, which reduces strain on the battery and helps the gearbox cycle cleanly, especially in semi-automatic. High-torque motors are often paired with torque-orientated or standard gear ratios. If you want a very high rate of fire, a high-speed motor or different gear set may suit better, so think about the whole build before choosing.
Fitting
Installing a motor is usually straightforward but does require care. The pinion gear must mesh correctly with the bevel gear: too deep and the gearbox whines and wears quickly, too shallow and the pinion can strip. Most AEGs have a motor height adjustment screw at the base of the grip, so set it gradually while test-firing in short bursts until the gearbox sounds smooth. A retailer listing notes that self-assembly is required, so ask a technician if you are unsure.
Key features
- Ultra high torque design from SHS
- Short-type motor, as named
- Retailer listing names AK and G36 series AEGs as intended fit
- Helps pull stronger springs and improves trigger response
- Length approx. 72mm and weight approx. 150g (per retailer listing)
- A popular, affordable replacement for worn stock motors
Compatibility
Short-type motors fit AEGs with short motor cages, such as AK and G36 series rifles. They do not fit M4, MP5 or other replicas that use a long-type motor, and pistol-grip motor mounts vary between manufacturers. Check which motor type your rifle uses, and whether you need to move your existing pinion gear across, before ordering.
Care and maintenance
Keep the motor clean and dry, and avoid running the gun with a badly set motor height. Do not leave the battery connected when storing the rifle. If the motor starts to smell hot, slows down or sparks heavily, stop and check the wiring, gear shimming and spring, as overloading shortens motor life.
Who is it for?
This motor is for AK and G36-type AEG owners replacing a worn motor, and for players fitting a stronger spring who want more pulling power and a crisper trigger response.
