Description
T&D Piston Head (Ported – Ball Bearing)
This is a T&D AEG piston head with a ported face and a ball bearing, as named. The piston head is the part at the front of the piston that compresses the air in the cylinder, and its seal and weight have a direct effect on how consistently an AEG shoots. A quality replacement piston head is one of the most common and cost-effective upgrades for an AEG gearbox.
T&D produces gearbox parts for AEGs, and a ported, bearing-equipped piston head is a popular choice when rebuilding or upgrading a gearbox, especially if you are fitting a stronger spring.
Ported face
A ported piston head has holes or vents in its face. These let the air push the O-ring outwards against the cylinder wall during the compression stroke, which helps it seal well, and they also reduce the weight of the head. A lighter head can help with a faster rate of fire and less strain on the gears, while a good seal gives more consistent shots.
Ball bearing
A ball bearing behind the head lets the spring rotate freely as it is compressed and released. Springs naturally twist under load; without a bearing, that twisting can unscrew the piston head over time, and it adds friction. A bearing head reduces that strain, which is particularly useful with stronger springs.
Key features
- AEG piston head from T&D
- Ported face (as named)
- Ball bearing for smooth spring rotation (as named)
- Helps the O-ring seal well against the cylinder
- Lighter than a solid head
- Popular gearbox upgrade or replacement
Compatibility
Piston heads are designed for standard AEG pistons and gearboxes, but fit varies by design, so please check that it suits your piston and cylinder before ordering; recoil (Next Generation) and some proprietary gearboxes use their own parts. Match the head to your cylinder and nozzle as part of a properly set-up air seal, and use a suitable O-ring, which should be checked when fitting.
Care and maintenance
When fitting, lightly grease the O-ring with silicone grease, check the head screw is secure (a small amount of thread lock is common practice) and test the air seal before reassembling the gearbox. Replace the O-ring if it becomes flattened, nicked or dry.
If you are not confident working on gearboxes, have the part fitted by an experienced technician, and always have the rifle chronographed after work on the gearbox.
Who is it for?
This piston head suits AEG owners and technicians rebuilding or upgrading a gearbox who want a ported, bearing-equipped head for a good seal and smooth spring action.
Please note: Piston, O-ring and tools are not listed as included. Have the rifle chronographed after any gearbox work.
