Description
T&D Piston Head With Bearing (6 Holes – Polymer)
This T&D piston head is a polymer head with six holes and a built-in bearing. It fits on the front of an AEG piston and carries the O-ring that seals the piston in the cylinder, so its condition and fit have a direct effect on air seal and consistency.
T&D produces affordable gearbox parts for AEG players and technicians. A new piston head is a common part to replace during a service or a rebuild, especially if the original is cracked, loose on the piston or failing to seal.
Why a bearing
As the piston is pulled back, the main spring compresses and tends to twist. A bearing in the piston head lets the spring rotate freely against the head instead of twisting the piston, which reduces friction and wear and helps the gearbox run more smoothly. Bearing heads are a popular upgrade for exactly that reason.
The holes in the face of the head reduce weight and are typical of ported or vented designs; check the product images to see the layout on this one.
Material
A polymer head is light, which helps the piston move quickly, and it tends to make a softer, quieter impact against the cylinder head than a metal head. It suits standard and moderate-power builds where low weight matters.
Fitting
Check the air seal of the piston head, cylinder head and nozzle together once the head is fitted. A light film of silicone grease on the O-ring helps it seal, and the head should be firmly secured to the piston so it cannot work loose.
Key features
- Polymer head with bearing
- Six holes in the face
- Bearing lets the spring rotate freely
- Helps reduce friction and wear
- Carries the O-ring that seals the cylinder
- Affordable T&D gearbox part
Compatibility
Piston heads are fitted to many common AEG pistons, but the fixing method (screw or press fit) and the size vary between makes. Check that the head suits your piston and cylinder before ordering, and compare it with your existing head.
Care and maintenance
Lightly grease the O-ring with silicone grease, and never use petroleum-based products, which can damage it. Check the O-ring and head for wear or cracks whenever the gearbox is open, and make sure the head is still tight on the piston.
Use good quality seamless BBs and keep the hop-up clean to stop debris working back into the gearbox.
Who is it for?
This head is for AEG technicians and home builders who want a bearing piston head in polymer for a service, repair or rebuild.
Please note: Single piston head only; piston and O-ring not included unless shown. Have gearbox work done by someone experienced if you are unsure.
