Description
Windbeater 4AAA Float
The Windbeater 4AAA is a float designed for windy days, when surface drift drags ordinary floats off line and makes it hard to present a bait properly. It takes 4AAA of shot, giving it the weight to cast well and the stability to hold its position in choppy water. It is equally at home on rivers or lakes, and the sight tip makes it easier to see when the surface is broken up by waves.
Wind is one of the most common problems a float angler faces. A float built for the job lets you keep fishing effectively when lighter, more conventional patterns are being pushed around the swim.
How it works
A windbeater float is attached bottom end only, like a waggler. After casting, you sink the line between the rod tip and the float by plunging the rod tip under the surface and making a few quick turns of the reel handle. With the line below the surface, the wind cannot catch it, and the float stays put rather than being dragged across the swim. The sight tip stays visible in a chop, so you can spot bites even when the water surface is rough.
Shotting and setting up
Lock the float in place with shot or float stops either side of the float adaptor, putting the bulk of the 4AAA loading around the float. Add a few smaller shot down the line to control the fall of the bait, and fine tune with dust shot until only the tip shows. Plumb the depth carefully, as fishing slightly overdepth can help steady the bait in a strong drift.
Key features
- Designed for windy conditions and surface drift
- Carries 4AAA shot
- Stable presentation in choppy water
- Attached bottom end only
- Sight tip for visibility in choppy water
- Suits both rivers and lakes
Compatibility
Use with a float adaptor or float stops on a standard float rod and main line suited to your target species. Make sure your rod can comfortably cast the float plus its 4AAA of shot.
Care and maintenance
Floats last much longer if they are kept in a dedicated float box or tube rather than loose in a bag, where tips can be snapped and bodies scratched. Rinse off mud and weed after a session and let them dry before packing them away. Check the attachment eye or stem for cracks from time to time, and touch up a faded tip with a little float paint if needed so it stays easy to see.
Who is it for?
For float anglers fishing exposed lakes and wide rivers, where wind and surface drift are common, and who need a float that is easy to see in a chop.
Please note: Shot, float adaptors, line and hooks are not included.
