WSB Barbless HTN 12

Description

WSB Barbless Hooks to Nylon – Size 12

WSB Barbless hooks to nylon in size 12 are ready-tied hooklengths, so you can change hooks quickly on the bank without tying your own. The hooks are bronzed, forged carbon steel with a medium shank, and WSB describe them as superb quality. Size 12 is a strong, versatile hook for bigger baits.

Ready-tied hooks save time and fiddling, particularly on cold days, in poor light or when fish are feeding and every minute counts. Simply loop them onto your main line or rig, bait up and cast.

The hook

Forging flattens the wire slightly at the bend, which adds strength and helps resist opening out under pressure from a good fish. The bronzed finish is a traditional, low-glare colour that blends in with most baits and backgrounds. A medium shank is a good all-round pattern: long enough to hold baits securely and to make unhooking easy, without being so long that it is obvious to wary fish.

Why barbless

Barbless hooks are kinder to fish, make unhooking quicker and cause less damage, which is why many fisheries and commercial waters insist on them. Keep a steady, even pressure on the fish while playing it and the hook will hold.

Choosing size 12

Size 12 suits larger baits such as luncheon meat cubes, bigger pellets, sweetcorn, worms and bread flake. It is a good match for carp, tench and bream, and a reliable choice for feeder and ledger fishing on commercials, lakes and rivers when bigger fish are expected.

Key features

• Size 12 barbless hooks
• Pre-tied to nylon
• Bronzed finish
• Forged carbon steel
• Medium shank pattern
• Quick to change on the bank

Compatibility

Attach to your main line with a loop-to-loop connection or to a float, feeder or ledger rig in the usual way. Check that the hooklength is lighter than your main line, so that any breakage happens at the hook rather than losing your float or feeder. Suits feeder, ledger and float set-ups with a main line suited to carp, tench and bream.

Care and maintenance

Hooks rust if they are put away wet, so let any used hooks dry fully before returning them to the packet or box, and keep them away from damp groundbait and bait tubs. Check the point regularly: if it has turned over or feels blunt after catching on stones or snags, replace it rather than risk losing a fish. Store spare hooklengths flat or on a rig winder so the line does not kink, and keep them out of direct sunlight. Dispose of old hooks and line safely, taking them home rather than leaving them on the bank.

Who is it for?

For coarse anglers fishing larger baits for carp, tench and bream, who want quick-change, ready-tied hooks.
