Description
WSB Maggot Riddle – 28cm x 28cm
The WSB Maggot Riddle is a square sieve measuring 28cm x 28cm, made for sorting maggots and casters and for riddling groundbait. It is one of those simple pieces of kit that makes every session run more smoothly, keeping your bait clean and lively and your groundbait free of lumps.
Most coarse anglers who use maggots, casters or groundbait end up wanting a riddle sooner or later. This one is compact, light and practical, and it fits neatly in a seat box, bait bag or carryall, so it is always there when you need it.
Sorting maggots and casters
Maggots usually come in sawdust or maize meal, and over a session they gather debris, skins and dead maggots. Tip them onto the riddle and give a gentle shake: the loose sawdust drops through and you are left with clean bait that is ready to hook or feed. It is also a quick way to separate casters from maggots that have not yet turned, so you can use each at the right time and keep the casters from turning into floaters.
Riddling groundbait
Groundbait full of lumps breaks up unevenly and can fill fish up instead of drawing them in. Pushing mixed groundbait through the riddle breaks down clumps and leaves a fine, even mix that is easy to ball or pack into a feeder. Many anglers mix, riddle, let the mix rest so the water soaks in, and then riddle again for the best consistency, particularly when fishing fine crumb for silverfish.
Easy to use
The square shape sits across the top of a bait bucket or groundbait bowl, so everything that passes through drops straight into the container below with no mess on the bank.
Key features
- Square riddle measuring 28cm x 28cm
- Separates maggots and casters from sawdust and debris
- Removes lumps from groundbait for an even mix
- Sits across the top of a bait bucket or bowl
- Light and compact for a seat box or carryall
- Useful for match, pleasure and feeder anglers
Compatibility
Works with any bait tub, bucket or groundbait bowl wide enough to support a 28cm square riddle. Suitable for maggots, pinkies, casters, groundbait, crumb and other fine baits.
Care and maintenance
Tap out loose sawdust and groundbait at the end of the day and rinse the riddle in clean water, using a brush to clear any groundbait that has dried in the mesh. Let it dry fully before packing it away so the mesh stays clean and nothing goes mouldy in your bait bag. Avoid standing on it or loading it with heavy items in transport, as a bent frame will not sit flat on a bucket.
Who is it for?
Ideal for match, pleasure and feeder anglers who use maggots, casters or groundbait, and a handy addition for anyone building up their first coarse fishing kit.
