Description

WSB Telespin 7

The WSB Telespin 7 is the shortest model in WSB’s Telespin range of telescopic spinning rods. The number in the name refers to the rod’s length in feet, so this is a 7ft rod that collapses down small enough to fit in a car boot, a suitcase or a rucksack.

WSB describes the Telespin series as a strong range of telescopic rods, not to be confused with cheap holiday rods, made in five popular lengths to cover the needs of the travelling angler. The 7ft model is the most compact and manoeuvrable of the set, which makes it a good match for small rivers, overgrown banks and anglers who walk to their fishing.

Using it on the bank

A 7ft spinning rod is easy to cast in tight spots under trees and along narrow streams. Pair it with a small fixed-spool reel and light line, and it is well suited to spinners, small plugs and soft lures for perch, trout and jack pike. It is also a handy rod for light float fishing on a pond or canal, and for youngsters who find a longer rod awkward.

From the coast it can be used for light work from harbour walls and piers, though longer rods in the range give more casting distance where that matters.

Setting up a telescopic rod

Extend the sections one at a time, starting from the tip, and give each joint a gentle twist so it seats firmly. Line up the rings as you go, then thread the line through. When packing away, collapse the sections from the butt end so that grit is not dragged into the joints, and never force a stuck section; a gentle twist and pull is usually enough.

Key features

  • 7ft telescopic spinning rod
  • Part of WSB’s five-length Telespin range
  • Built as a strong rod, not a cheap holiday rod
  • Collapses down for travel and storage
  • Easy to cast in tight swims
  • Suits spinners, small lures and light float fishing

Compatibility

Pair it with a small to medium fixed-spool reel and light mono or braid. Keep lure and lead weights within what a light spinning rod is designed for. The Telespin is also available in 8ft, 9ft and 10ft versions if you need more reach.

Care and maintenance

Rinse the rod in fresh water after any trip to the sea, paying attention to the joints where salt and sand collect, then let it dry fully with the sections extended before collapsing it. Store it in a sleeve or tube, and check the rings now and then for cracks or grooves that could damage your line.

Who is it for?

The Telespin 7 suits anglers who travel, walk to remote swims or fish small, overgrown waters, as well as younger anglers and beginners who want a compact rod that is easy to handle.

Please note: The reel and line are not included.
