Description
Colt GAU-5A Lightning Series MWS Gas Blowback Airsoft Rifle (EMG/CYMA CGS)
This is the Colt licensed GAU-5A from EMG’s Lightning Series, a gas blowback rifle built by CYMA on its CGS system, which follows the Tokyo Marui MWS layout. The GAU-5/A was the US Air Force’s version of Colt’s short carbine in the Vietnam era, and its compact barrel, slim handguard and sliding stock give it a look that collectors and themed-game players love.
EMG holds licences for a range of real-world firearms brands, and its Colt Lightning Series rifles are built by CYMA around its CGS gas system, which follows the layout of Tokyo Marui’s MWS gas blowback rifle.
Compatibility
Retailer listings for the Lightning Series describe compatibility with most Tokyo Marui MWS-spec magazines and upgrade parts, and listings for CYMA CGS rifles also mention CYMA CGS magazines. Fit can still vary between brands, so test any new magazine before relying on it in a game. AEG magazines will not fit. Use good quality seamless 6mm BBs and the gas recommended in the manual.
The carry-handle upper suits period-correct builds; check fit before adding modern rails or optics.
Care and maintenance
Keep the bolt carrier and the inside of the receiver lightly lubricated with a silicone-based gas blowback lubricant, and clean the inner barrel now and then with a rod and dry patch. Put a drop of silicone oil on each magazine’s fill valve and seals every few fills, store magazines with a little gas in them, and never overfill. Store the rifle unloaded and dry, and never use petroleum-based oils on seals.
Who is it for?
The GAU-5A suits gas blowback fans, collectors of historic Colt carbines and players building a Vietnam-era loadout who want realistic recoil from an MWS-pattern rifle.
Please note: We do not hold a full specification or box contents for this rifle, so please ask us if you need to know which magazine is supplied before ordering. Gas and BBs are not included. Always wear suitable eye protection when using any airsoft replica, and have it chronographed at your site before play.
