Description
Kamasan B980 Specimen Hooks – Size 8
The Kamasan B980 Specimen is a traditional eyed hook designed for a wide range of fishing and, in Kamasan’s words, for bigger fish everywhere. It is heavily forged to strengthen the bend, giving you a strong, reliable hook that resists opening out when a big fish pulls hard. This listing is for size 8.
Kamasan has been one of the best-known hook makers in British angling for decades, and the B980 is one of their classic patterns. It is made from medium-gauge high-carbon steel wire with a round bend, a slightly reversed eye and a barbed, chemically sharpened needle point, a combination that gives a sharp, secure hook-hold and plenty of strength.
Choosing size 8
Size 8 is a popular all-round size for specimen fishing. It suits boilies, pellets, meat and corn for carp, barbel and tench, and ties neatly with a knotless knot for hair rigs.
Tying and rigging
The eyed pattern makes the B980 easy to tie. Use a knotless knot to form a hair rig for boilies, pellets, corn and particles, or a palomar or grinner knot when you want to hook a bait directly. The slightly reversed eye helps the hook turn and take hold. After tying, wet and tighten the knot slowly to avoid weakening the line, and test it with a firm pull before casting.
Key features
- Traditional eyed specimen hook
- Heavily forged to strengthen the bend
- Medium-gauge high-carbon steel wire
- Chemically sharpened needle point
- Barbed, with a round bend
- Slightly reversed eye
- Suits a wide range of species and methods
Compatibility
Suitable for monofilament, fluorocarbon and braided hooklinks, and for hair rigs, bait-on-the-hook presentations and general float and ledger fishing. Match your line strength to the hook size and the fish you are expecting, and check your fishery’s rules, as some venues require barbless hooks; the B980 is a barbed pattern, so you may need a barbless alternative or to crush the barb where that is allowed.
Care and maintenance
Keep hooks dry in their packet or a tackle box with a lid, as moisture causes rust and dulls the point. Check the point regularly and replace any hook that is blunt, bent or rusty. A hook sharpener can touch up a point, but never use a hook that has opened out. Dispose of old hooks safely and take them home with you.
Who is it for?
Carp, specimen and general coarse anglers who want a strong, traditional eyed hook they can rely on, and any angler targeting bigger fish who wants a hook that will not let them down.
