Description
Pike Spinning Traces
These pike spinning traces are wire traces with a 20lb breaking strain, designed to protect your line from the sharp teeth of pike and other predators when spinning and lure fishing. Attach one between your mainline and your lure, and you can fish with confidence knowing that a pike cannot bite through your line.
A wire trace is essential when targeting pike. Their mouths are full of sharp teeth that can cut through ordinary monofilament or braid in an instant, which means a lost fish and, worse, a pike left with a lure or hook in its mouth. A suitable trace protects both your tackle and the welfare of the fish.
How to use them
Tie the swivel end of the trace to your mainline using a reliable knot. Attach your spinner, spoon, plug or soft lure to the clip at the other end. The swivel helps reduce line twist, which is common when using spinners and some spoons.
Using them on the bank
Spinning is an active, mobile way of fishing: cast, retrieve and move along the bank to find fish. Vary the speed and depth of your retrieve until you find what the pike want. Always carry long-nosed forceps or pliers and an unhooking mat, so you can unhook pike safely and quickly.
Key features
- Wire traces for pike and predator fishing
- 20lb breaking strain
- Protects line from sharp teeth
- Ideal for spinning and lure fishing
- Swivel helps reduce line twist
Compatibility
Use with spinners, spoons, plugs and soft lures. Match the trace to your mainline: your mainline should be at least as strong as the trace. Suitable for pike and other predators such as perch and zander, though for those smaller fish a lighter set-up may be preferred where pike are not present.
Care and maintenance
Check traces after every fish and every snag. Replace any trace that is kinked, frayed or bent, as kinked wire is much weaker. Rinse in fresh water after use and dry before storing to prevent corrosion of the clip and swivel.
Who is it for?
Anglers spinning or lure fishing for pike and other predators who need reliable bite protection.
Please note: Many fisheries require a wire trace when fishing for pike. Always check local rules.
