Description
WSB Pro Mono 3lb
WSB Pro Mono 3lb is a nylon monofilament fishing line with a 3lb breaking strain, part of WSB’s Pro Mono range. At 3lb it is a light, fine line for finesse coarse fishing, where a delicate presentation makes the difference between catching and blanking.
Monofilament remains the most popular all-round fishing line because it is easy to handle, forgiving and good value. It is simple to spool, casts smoothly off a fixed spool reel and ties dependable knots, which makes it a sensible choice for beginners and experienced anglers alike.
Where 3lb line fits
A 3lb line is suited to light float fishing for roach, rudd, dace and other silverfish on canals, small rivers and ponds, where fish are often small and wary. It is also commonly used as a hooklength material beneath a heavier main line, giving a finer, less visible link to the hook. Because it is light, play fish gently, set your reel drag carefully and keep it away from snags, weed and heavy fish.
Why monofilament
Mono has a degree of natural stretch. That stretch acts as a shock absorber when you strike and when a fish makes a sudden lunge close to the net, which reduces hook pulls and breakages, especially on lighter tackle. It also sinks steadily and lies naturally on the bottom when ledgering, and it is easy to see what is happening with your rig. Because nylon is supple, it sits well on the spool and comes off cleanly during the cast, which helps with both distance and accuracy.
Key features
- 3lb breaking strain
- Nylon monofilament
- Natural stretch cushions the strike and the fight
- Supple and easy to cast
- Ties strong, reliable knots
- Fine line for delicate presentation
- Can be used as a hooklength
Compatibility
Suits small fixed spool reels on light float rods and whips, or as hooklength material beneath a 4lb to 6lb main line. Use small hooks and light shotting patterns to match.
As a rule of thumb, choose a hooklength a little lighter than your main line, so that if you do get snagged the break happens at the hooklength and you do not lose your float or feeder.
Care and maintenance
Nylon monofilament is tough, but heat and sunlight are its main enemies. Store spare spools in a cool, dark place, and avoid leaving loaded reels on a car dashboard or in a hot shed. At the start of every session, run the last few metres through your fingers and cut back any section that feels rough, flattened or kinked.
Always moisten knots with water before pulling them tight, as friction heat can weaken the line at the knot. Retie after landing a big fish or pulling free from a snag. If you fish in the sea, rinse your reel and spool in fresh water afterwards and let it dry naturally. Take old line home and cut it into short lengths before binning it, so it cannot trap birds or wildlife.
Who is it for?
For anglers who enjoy light float fishing for silverfish on canals, ponds and small rivers, and for anyone who ties their own light hooklengths.
